Happy Holidays!!!!

It's snowing in Philly..yuck. I have to go to work in the morning. I hope this crap stops...I may work from home. Depends on how much "Nog" I have...LOL...anywho, I have to do some touch up painting on my sewing room. My husband did the painting, but his thought is to just complete the job regardless of how it looks. Anyway that is another story. I did have to get a gallon of paint again, but not as expensive as the first gallon. I also have to go back and get ceiling paint again. The color is called Vibrant by Behr and the ceiling is just white. I am going to get the flooring this week and try to get that completed before the end of Jan. 2011.

The only sewing that I've done is a black crepe skirt for my brother's wedding. I came out nice. I was lined and all. I look pretty good. I had a gold V-neck sweather and my black square toe heels...I had it together....thanks to my Spanx!!!

Hope to blog again soon...

Setting up my sewing room...'bout time!!!

Hey...it's been awhile since I last posted. I am such a bad blogger. Anyway, I am in the process of getting my sewing room together. I moved all the boxes out and pulled up the carpet. I have that rubber stuff and that border and nails to remove. I don't know the proper names for that stuff. Not yet anyway, I have my Home Depot 123 book and tons of stuff online to study. I am going to try to put down that laminate flooring by myself...lol. But first I am going to paint. I wanted to get a nice color. Still trying to decide on a color. Something soooooothing. I will post some pics of before, during and after when I get a min to down load from my cam. Peace!!!!

Poplin shirt review....

I got several of tops...reason why...had a great coupon. The more the got the better the deal. I felt it was worth it because they don't look cheap. You know that some of these stores have really cheap stuff and you can end up looking like a hot mess!!! I really can't stand when I see my fellow BBW's looking like they just don't care. I get so embarrassed. Anyway, I will get off of my soap box about that.

5out of 5

Sizing: Feels true to size

Length: Feels true to length

Pros: Great Color, Figure Flattering, Quality Materials, Versatile

Cons: None

Best Uses: Staple, Date Night/Night Out, Wear To Work, Casual Wear

Describe Yourself: Trendy, Sexy, Classic, Eclectic, Casual, Bargain Shopper, Career

I just love, love, love these. I am so glad that I got one in every color, should have gotten two in white and black. I love the fit, I got my in the 18/20. If I would have gotten my regular size they would have been too big and I don't like to look sloppy. I use these as a waredrobe staple. They work well with a nice pair of slacks and was surprised with how nice they looked with a jeans. I plan on getting them dry cleaned to make sure they always stay fresh. I can get two wears from them, so I feel that it's worth getting them dry cleaned for a while. I wish they came in more colors!!!!!! BTW...I wear my untucked...

Better Blogging...

I went to a blogging class offered by a place called MALT (Mt. Airy Learning Tree) here in Philly. What they do is offer different courses like cooking, dancing and spiritual classes, yoga, etc. It's really cool!! Well, it was the PITS. There was nothing hands-on about it. The "instructor" just went on different blogs to talk about them and most of those blogs were her own and relatives. I was getting very frustrated to say the least. I made a statement last night and asked were we getting any hands-on, she sort of blow me off. I got pissed after that. At the end they have a survey, I normally give 5 being the best, I gave her 2's and 3's. Oh well, better luck learning on my own. It's blogging how hard can it be????

Where have I been....

First, hello to everyone. It's been a while since I been on the site or any site that has to do with sewing. After my trip to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, I've moved in our new home. We got it the end of Jan, but just moved in the end of April. Between working, packing and classes, sewing was put on the back burner. My goal for this week is to set up my sewing room, even if it's only temporary. I want to remove the carpet and lay some laminate wood, for easy clean up. I don't like to vac threads and stuff. Plus it will be using it as my beading room as well. The cable TV is all set up, just have to move my computer up there. I did treat myself to a new ironing broad. I got it at Wal-mart; I like it because it's wide. Anyway, will chat soon...I am getting my sewing bug back and I want to make this two pc set form a nice knit I got from http://www.fabric.com/. I've decided not to buy, if I can help it, any more fabric until I sew up at least 30% of what I had. When I moved it seemed like I had more boxes of fabric then anything else. Oh well....

VITA-MIX!!!!!!

Last weekend, I saw a infomercial with Montel Williams. He was pushing a Healthmaster. I wanted one really bad. So I did my research and saw that it had bad reviews. Anyhow, I stumbled upon something called a Vita-Mix. After speaking with the rep at Vita-Mix, she explained the difference between the two machines. I ordered it on Monday, 3.22.10, it arrived on 3.25.10. Well....I LOVE IT. When I got it home I made a "green" smoothie. It was great, I don't think I cleaned my celery what well, it tasted kind of dirty. BUT....I was very happy with the results of my concoction. I wasn’t cheap, but from what the reviews say they last a long time. I want to use it for weight lose and health reasons.

I made a really great tasting carrot/cranberry drink. I used one handful of baby carrot and one cup of cranberry juice cocktail. It was GREAT!!!!

it's been a long time...

i am not a good blogger. several things have happened since I last blogged. we (me and my hubby) brought our first house. it's cute and a lot warmer then the apartment that we are living in now. only thing is that we settled on jan 29th, but haven't moved in yet. i've been busy sewing and packing and getting ready for our vacation. my husband is due to land in Trinidad in about 30 min. he will be in time to enjoy carnival for a few days. on sunday the 21st, I will be leaving to meet him in St. Vincent. it's a beautiful part of the caribbean...nice and mellow.

i've done some sewing, but not as much as I would have liked. I think it was poor planning on my part. I made 6 skirts and four tops...the one thing that I am impressed with is my girdle. it goes all the up under my bust. I look smooth all the way around. I can't wait to wear it with my wrap top and skirt. this will be a church outfit.

I will post pic of all of the things that I sewed for the trip.

take care!!!!!!

KWIK-SEW 3533

I was thinking about making this for my trip in Feb. I would only need one to wear to church. KS-3533.  I would not do the contrast, I'd would just use the same fabric that I may make the dress out of.....

Another follow-up for Simp 4076, view C

This pattern did not work for me. I made it again with a stretch rayon in a nice green. Even with my good bra on it was a disaster. WON'T BE MAKING THIS AGAIN!!!! EVER

THE RIGHT BRA

It's so funny how the right under-garments make all the difference in fitting. I made a scoop-neck tee shirt, I thought that it was awful when I tried it on with my not-so-good bra. I threw it on today with one of my good bras and it has a completely different look, even the neck line looks better. Mental note, always wear good bras when fitting. I feel that when you wear a good bra it's comfortable. I vowed never to make KS 2619 view B ever, but now since I know how it's looks with the girls in place I will make this for my SWAP for my trip next month.

KWIK-SEW 3003

Trying to utilize the pivot and slide method of pattern alteration per information from one of the books from Nancy's Notions. The math doesn't makse sence to me, but will try it again. I will be using KS3003, view A top. Cut the size L and pivoted, etc for a bust and sleeve increase. I have this fabric that I've had for a while, don't really like but this will be a weekend wearable muslin.
